Sustainability Policy

Purpose and Scope

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change reported in October 2018 that “keeping to the preferred target of 1.5C above pre-industrial levels will mean rapid, far-reaching and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society.”

We at SLX are committed to playing our part, reducing our impact and in doing so mitigating any regulatory, organisational, or reputational risks associated with high emissions.
SLX is committed to creating a more sustainable events industry for future generations. We recognise our most significant environmental impacts to be in the areas of:

  • Waste generation from our offices and warehouse;
  • Energy use within our offices and warehouse;
  • Fuel Consumption in both our vehicles and generators on site;
  • Transport, including business travel and delivery/collections at site;
  • Our product procurement.

Policy Objectives

SLX will achieve this policy by:

  • Delivering sustainable profitable growth while fulfilling our moral, legal and contractual obligations to the environment and for future generations;
  • Satisfying clients and assisting in developing solutions to environmental problem, that we or our clients may encounter;
  • Engaging and disseminating sustainability principles and issues to our staff and clients;
  • Making a positive and lasting contribution to the communities in which we work;
  • Protecting the environment by preventing or mitigating our adverse environmental impacts by adopting the highest environmental standards in all areas of operation;
  • Reducing our energy consumption;
  • Minimising waste through careful and efficient use of all materials and energy, promoting re-use and recycling wherever possible;
  • Having an aligned and conscious supply chain;
  • Sourcing sustainable products wherever feasible; and
  • Ensuring our sustainable approach is applied across all our operations by continually assessing and auditing the environmental impact of our operations.

Requirements

Moral, legal and contractual obligations: We are committed to complying with applicable statutory legal and other compliance requirements to which we subscribe, that relate to our environmental aspects and will ensure that these requirements are effectively communicated to all persons working for our organisation and external parties where necessary.

Clients: SLX must have the right systems and processes in place to nurture relationships with clients and provide the reassurance that we will deliver sustainable development opportunities throughout our service delivery. All customer relationship management should be undertaken with client satisfaction in mind.

Social Value and Responsible Business: Contributions should be made to the communities in which we work. SLX should take a two-pronged approach to social value and commits to creating a legacy both within Bristol where we are based and within our industry.

Environmental and Energy management: We must make sure that our people understand our environmental impacts and are provided with the information and resources to reduce them. Sustainability awareness must also include looking at opportunities to enhance our environmental and energy performance. We will implement and document environmental, energy and carbon management systems to reduce and mitigate our impacts wherever possible in the journey to a net zero carbon future. We are committed to removing fossil fuels from our fleet and our events.

Supply Chain: We will strive to provide sustainable value on every contract and encourage our supply chain partners to support us in achieving our clients’ sustainable objectives and drivers to maximise value for all our stakeholders. SLX is committed to procuring its works, goods, and services in an ethically and environmentally sensitive way, yet with proper regard to its commercial obligations, ensuring that suppliers deliver to agreed timescales, quality, and cost.  SLX’s suppliers have been surveyed and evaluated based on their sustainability and environmental commitments.

Report our Performance: SLX’s Carbon Footprint report will be publicly shared each year once completed. Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions will continue to be measured and reported on annually in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
