Job Summary

SLX is a renowned technical services supplier to the Theatre, Events, Sporting and Broadcast industries and is expanding their technical team, with a particular focus on sport broadcast events. You will join our dynamic team to increase and enhance the excellent design and CAD capabilities of the Special Projects team on a variety of projects from tender stage through all phases of project cycle. We expect your day to day tools will be Vectorworks Spotlight, ConnectCAD and Microsoft Office, working knowledge of Lightwrite and Visualisation Software would be preferable. Most work will be in a 3d enviroment. This role will may involve weekend and evening working according to the deadlines of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production and revision of high quality, detailed, to scale, technical construction drawings and plans for events including lighting, power, network systems, rigging and event structures. Along with 3d models, visualisation and renders as required
  • Review, interpret and import all relevant detail of client supplied plans, drawings and technical data.
  • Where requested by the technical project management team, or design team contribute to the design solutions for design problems arising
  • Review and interpret information supplied in various formats including but not limited to dwg, vwx, calculux, dialux, pdf, excel, text documents.
  • Ensure all drawings, layouts and 3D models produced follow the required templates and meet the required standards.
  • Review and checking of all design accuracy is ensured prior to issue.
  • Review and revision of design produced by others.
  • Production of installation and manufacturing documentation.
  • Utilise design templates and standards, plugins and other third party software
  • Maintain and update a custom SLX Spotlight Symbol Library for specific equipment
  • Produce and issue all drawings in accordance with the defined version control procedure, adhering to all requirements for changes recording, version numbering and all related processes.
  • Liaise with internal and external Lighting Designers/ Directors, other Designers, technical project managers, programmers, lighting and rigging teams.
  • Participate and note take in technical design team meetings and project programme meetings.
  • Make changes to the detailed design in accordance with instructions from members of the technical project management team, technical design team and installation projects team.
  • Provision of all relevant project details to the Head of Overlay, technical project management team, technical design team and installation projects team, as required throughout your involvement with a Project
  • Answer questions and resolve issues relating to the drawn work or project specification as required
  • Plan all tasks to meet project deadlines, and work independently to carry out tasks on time. Actively communicate task progress, including any delays and issues that impact overall project programme. Participate in regular team update meetings and project progress meetings to update on task progress.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Minimum 2 Years Experience in producing detailed technical construction drawings for events mainly lighting based.
  • Minimum 2 Years Experience in producing 2D and 3D drawings using Vectorworks, including exportation to DWG and other formats
  • Working knowledge of Lighting systems and the way lighting systems are connected created
  • Proven ability to plan and carry out tasks independently within project timelines to meet deadlines
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office

Desirable

  • Rigging and event structure knowledge
  • Experience in review and conversion of lighting designs produced in other programmes eg calculux, dialux and accurately import to vectorworks
  • Lightwrite knowledge or similar
