Our Approach
We installed a rig that could be left up throughout the venue’s party season to eliminate the need for multiple rigs and derigs, minimising disruption during the day when the Cutty Sark is open to the public. In a single install, we put a lighting rig and a sound system in place and created a bespoke back of house walling system that created a convenient storage area for the small amount of SLX equipment needed for the parties, and tables and chairs from the caterers. We used Purely-Pinks as part of our lighting design, which complemented the copper colouring of the ship perfectly and avoided Christmas cliches in the usual red and green palettes guests would usually expect.
The results
The Cutty Sark hosted eight exclusive and mixed party nights across three weeks, welcoming up to 270 guests to each of the eight parties. Our made-to-measure, back of house walling and storage system effectively masked the SLX and catering equipment during public visiting hours, and seamlessly functioned as a cloakroom, too. The space was easily transformed from a tourist attraction during the day to a unique event space at night, perfectly setting the scene for the festive party season every evening.
