The spotlight on James Calliss, a member of our Lighting Programme cohort of 23/24, as their programming work took centre stage in the Guildhall School of Music & Drama’s production of “Moving Screens” with Lighting Designer Tom Shackleton.
An innovative and captivating production, “Moving Screens” showcased the creative synergy between programming and lighting design. Equipped with a range of equipment supported by our Lighting Programme, James brought the production to life. They chose Robe Spiider Washbeam, GLP Impression X4Bar20, Ayrton Eurus, and SGM Q7 Strobe, which enabled them to create a stunning visual experience for the audience.
James reflects, “During the course of the Moving Screens project, it was great to add the extra SLX kit to the existing theatre’s inventory. The additions of the Robe Spiiders, Ayrton Eurus, and X4 Bar 20s meant that we could use fixtures that we don’t often get to use both from a programming and design perspective. The Spiiders especially became the centrepiece of the design in the project and it was amazing to have access to such kit!”
Witnessing the impact of our Lighting Programme on our students fills us with pride. Providing our students access to a variety of fixtures to help them, and their peers, gain understanding and experience is a fundamental element of our Social Value. We are driven to support and develop future generations of technical production creatives.
James has now graduated from the BA Production Arts (Theatre Technology) course at Guildhall, where he undertook this work as part of his studies, generously supported by our Lighting Programme.
We were delighted to be a part of this excellent production and support James. Learn more about our Lighting Programme here.
