Emerging from what has been the most challenging year in my 40-year career in the live events industry are some signs of new life, new opportunity and importantly hope that the events industry will return in a significant way.
The roadmap announcement undoubtedly gave us all a plan to work to and that, alongside the success of the vaccination programme, has prompted a flurry of new enquiries. Whilst we appreciate caution must be taken with the exact dates on which rules will relax and connection can once again be made through in person events, here at SLX we are optimistic.
We’re actively preparing for a ‘full steam ahead return’ by ensuring all staff are undertaking professional development and training courses – in particular around health & safety and preparing people for a return to work. However, there is plenty to do in the meantime with several TV broadcast projects, virtual events and digitally broadcast theatre productions to supply and support.
As we return to a semblance of ‘normality’ in the industry across the coming months, I’m keen that here at SLX we consider how we can come back better. The green agenda will be front and centre as we all look at ways of operating in our industry whilst reducing our impact on the planet. That presents exciting opportunities for innovation. We will also continue to support the up-and-coming talent in our industry – as we have recently with our work on the Guildford School of Acting Spring Season and news will land shortly about our Student Bursary Scheme 2021/2022.
It is great to be able to share a message of optimism, and I do hope this message finds you all well. Here’s to a future that for the first time in a while looks brighter!
